Make-Up Work
Students are responsible for all work missed due to absences according to the following guidelines:
- Work missed due to illness or family emergency - parents should phone the school office before 9:00 am to report an absence. Teachers will be notified and Lower School assignments and books may be picked up in the office after 3:00 pm. Middle School homework is picked up after 3:00 pm in the Middle School foyer. (This provides teachers time to get the materials together.) In addition, websites of some teachers may have the information available to find out about work that has been completed and assignments due.
- Work missed is due at the time the student returns on the basis of one day for each day absent up to a maximum of five (5) school days. For example, if a student is out three school days, all work must be turned in no later than the fourth day the student is back in school.
- Tests in the Middle School may be made up after school at a time scheduled by the teacher. Tests missed during absences must be made up within five (5) school days after the student returns.
- Work missed due to anticipated absence - arrangements must be made through the office in order for students to be excused for absences due to family business or trips of educational value. A written excuse must be presented before the absence and students and families are responsible for obtaining all assignments before departure. Tests missed during an absence must be made up as stated above. The student must complete a brief written description of the experience of the trip for the Head of School.
- Work and tests may only be made up for excused absences. A written note from a parent or guardian is required for an absence to be excused. The written note must be provided within one week after the student has returned to school. A "0" will be given for all work missed due to an unexcused absence. This 0 however, should be weighted appropriately with other homework.
