Primary School (PS) Overview

Kindergarten

Kindergarten at All Saints is a full day program. Each day begins with chapel. All Saints has a virtue of the month and is an important extension of daily chapel. Students in Kindergarten have a wealth of resources to enhance the program. Classroom curriculum includes language arts, math, social studies and phonics. Thematic Units are presented four times a year allowing the students to trade classes and explore activities and problem solve. Enrichment classes outside of the classroom include: Spanish, Library, Art, Music, P.E. and Science Lab. Kindergarten should be a safe loving environment that supports creativity, fosters independence and generates challenge.

1st Grade

The first grade day begins with chapel where music and scripture study enforce the spiritual atmosphere embraced and promoted here at All Saints Episcopal School. Then the students embark on a schedule filled with language exploration and expansion, including an in-depth phonics program, whole and small group reading lessons, and Accelerated Reader program training. They are presented with challenging mathematical concepts which continue to build throughout the year, incorporating use of critical thinking strategies and fortified through use of a wide range of manipulative items and hands-on exploration. The science program includes weekly lab exercises, each offering invaluable opportunity for discovery. The climax of the first grade science experience is an all-day field trip to the Cockrell Butterfly exhibit at the Museum of Natural Science in Houston. Social awareness is built through exposure and interaction to enhancement programs including music, library, P.E., art, and Spanish. Appreciation of ethnic and historical settings are nurtured, including a visit to the Heritage Village of Woodville, Texas. On this trip the students are shown the way early American settlers lived day to day. There is a strong sense of responsibility instilled through the daily routines, and the students take great pride in their new independence and success.
