Service Hours for Middle School Students
All Saints Episcopal School wants to encourage the spirit of volunteerism and hopes to promote an active concern for others. Graduation "with distinction" is awarded to those students who have served our school at least 5 hours and our community at least 10 hours during both the seventh grade and eighth grade years.
School service hours would include activities such as:
- Assist with a faculty or Parent Association meeting
- Assist the office staff
- Work in the library
- Work at a sports event, tournament
- Tutor in a designated program
- Help with janitorial tasks
Community Service hours would include activities like these:
- Help at a community event for the Heritage Society, Art Museum or Symphony
- Work at Some Other Place
- Special tasks for your church
- Performance for children, elderly
- Scout service projects
- Helping an elderly or needy neighbor
- Work for Habitat for Humanity
Volunteer work at All Saints Summer Explorers or during Carnival may "count" toward either school or community service hours.
Service hours do not include home chores or family babysitting. Credit will NOT be given for helping a parent at the place of business even if such work is without pay.
If the seventh grade hours are not completed, they can be "made up" during the eighth grade year, but at double the rate.
Current Honor Society members and candidates of Honor Society should have completed half their hours of service in both categories by the end of the fall semester.
Hours are credited beginning the day after school is dismissed for the summer. Hours MAY BE completed during the summer. Hours may not be carried over from one year to the next. For graduating eighth graders, hours must be turned in by mid May. For seventh grade, hours should be turned in by the last day of school.
Service hour "updates" are included with report cards throughout the year.
In order to receive credit for services performed, the student must provide written evidence of the service done, the hours given, the students name and the signature of an adult supervisor. Please specify "school" or "community". Service hours may be turned in to Mrs. Chenault, Middle School Coordinator at anytime or placed in her box in the office during the summer recess.
